Products
Q: How should I care for SHIZQ wooden tableware?
General Care
Wash gently with a soft sponge or cloth and a mild, non-abrasive dishwashing detergent. Avoid coarse or hard sponges, metal scrubbers, abrasive sponges, and scouring cleansers, as they may scratch the surface and cause damage.
After serving water, tea, or similar drinks, rinsing with water alone is usually sufficient.
If food or residue has dried on the surface, soften it with water or lukewarm water before washing.
Tsuru Series
Allow the product to air-dry or gently wipe away any remaining moisture. The water-resistant coating repels water effectively, so the product dries relatively quickly. Although the coating provides resistance to water, we recommend avoiding prolonged soaking.
Kame and Kamehachi Series
Wipe away moisture with a soft cloth and store the product in a well-ventilated place. Avoid prolonged soaking, as the wood may absorb water and expand, potentially causing the lacquer coating to peel, or the product to warp or crack.
Q: How should I store SHIZQ wooden tableware?
Store the product in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight.
The lacquer coating on the Kame Series may gradually become thinner through prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light. One of the qualities of lacquerware is that its appearance and durability can be maintained through periodic recoating and repair. With regular care, SHIZQ products can be enjoyed and passed down for many years.
Q: Can I use SHIZQ wooden tableware for hot drinks?
The coatings used on all SHIZQ tableware series are heat-resistant. However, sudden or extreme changes in temperature may cause the wood to expand, warp, or crack.
Do not pour boiling water directly into the product from a kettle. Allow the drink to cool to a comfortable drinking temperature of approximately 60°C before serving it in SHIZQ tableware.
Q: Can I use a dishwasher, dish dryer, or microwave?
No. Do not use SHIZQ wooden tableware in a dishwasher, dish dryer, or microwave. High temperatures and rapid drying may cause the wood to warp, split, or crack.
Q: Can I store SHIZQ wooden tableware in a refrigerator?
We do not recommend storing SHIZQ wooden tableware in a refrigerator. Sudden temperature changes and the dry environment inside a refrigerator may cause the wood to warp or crack over time.
Q: Can I use metal cutlery?
Metal cutlery may scratch the surface of wooden tableware.
We recommend using wooden cutlery whenever possible. Wooden utensils complement SHIZQ tableware both aesthetically and functionally while helping to protect the surface.
Q: Are the colors of the Tsuru Series natural?
Yes. The colors are entirely natural and come from Japanese cedar itself.
Cedar naturally contains two contrasting areas of wood with different tones. While this variation is often avoided in construction materials, SHIZQ embraces it as part of the design. The beautiful contrast of natural colors and annual growth rings makes every piece unique.
Q: What are the darker patterns found on some Tsuru Series products?
These darker markings are natural cedar resin. Trees produce resin to protect themselves from moisture, insects, and physical damage.
Rather than treating these natural characteristics as imperfections, SHIZQ celebrates them as part of each tree's individual story. Every piece is unique, reflecting the beauty and character of natural wood.
Gift Wrapping
Q: Do you offer gift packaging?
All wooden products are presented in our complimentary signature gift box.
An original SHIZQ paper gift bag is included with every order, including aroma products, making your purchase ready for gift giving.
You may also add a complimentary gift message card during checkout.
Please note that we do not offer ribbon wrapping, wrapping paper, or traditional Japanese Noshi gift wrapping for international orders.
Q: Can my wooden tableware be engraved?
We do not offer engraving services.
Every SHIZQ piece celebrates the natural beauty of Japanese cedar, making each one unique. To preserve these natural characteristics, we do not engrave our products.
Repairs & Replacements
Q: My SHIZQ wooden product has cracked. What should I do?
If a crack develops during normal use within three months of purchase
Please contact us with photos of the product. We will inspect the condition and, if the damage is determined to be caused by the natural characteristics of the wood, we will provide an appropriate solution, including replacement where applicable.
If your product has become chipped or scratched through regular use
Owners of the Tsuru Series may purchase a replacement at a special customer price.
For the Kame and Kamehachi Series, professional repair and re-lacquering services are available for a fee. With proper maintenance, lacquerware can remain beautiful and functional for many years.
As each situation is different, we recommend contacting us first. We'll be happy to review the condition of your product and advise you on the best available solution.
